Should I cut low frequencies from the sides or the mid channel?

Cutting low frequencies from the sides keeps your bass centered and mono-compatible, which prevents phase cancellation when your track is played in mono. I use a high-pass filter on the side channel around 150Hz (though it depends on the sound) to maintain stereo width in the upper frequencies while keeping low end stable. This technique ensures your correlation meter stays happy and you retain bass information when the track folds to mono.
